Review :
Trumpeter Donald Byrd was in his prime during the 1960s and this album finds him stretching the limits of hard bop. With the assistance of four other young forward-thinking musicians (tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Butch Warren, and drummer Billy Higgins), Byrd plays some of his more adventurous originals. High points include “Pentecostal Feeling,” Hancock’s ballad “Night Flower,” and the unpredictable “Free Form.” Highly recommended.
