Review:
A mellow burner! Nice meeting of soul jazz greats Sonny Stitt and Jack McDuff, cut a few years before Stitt would go onto cut similar sides with organist Don Patterson. Sweet soulful, bluesy numbers that make us feel like we’re kicking back at the New Apartment, DJ Lounge or Baja Man, some of the hippest spots on the South Side of Chicago. Stitt plays tenor on four of the numbers, alto on the other two, while Leonard Gaskin & Herbie Lovelle bounce nicely underneath in the rhythm section. Includes the title track and “Shadows” two nice groovers by Stitt, and a great rendition of the standard “Love Nest”.
