Review:
Houston Person, the definitive soul-jazz tenor saxophonist of the past 30 years, is in excellent form on this early session. Teamed with trombonist Curtis Fuller, baritonist Pepper Adams, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Frankie Jones, Person holds his own with the better-known horn players and takes a brief vacation from his usual organ group. The music is both straight-ahead and bluesy with Cedar Walton’s “Holy Land” and “Please Send Me Someone to Love” being the highpoints.
