Album Description:
BGP return with an absolutely cracking selection of funk instrumentals - including rare obscurities and sought-after classics. From the rare side of the tracks we have Ron Buford’s follow-up to ‘Deep Soul’ - ‘More Soul’, the astounding ‘Stuck In The Mud’ by Miles Grayson and the Joe Tex Band’s ‘Chocolate Cherry’ which has been picking up a lot of plays recently. Also the super-rare Detroit breakbeat ‘Roly Poly Mickey Lolich’ by the Fans. In the sought-after stage there is the Detroit City Limits all-time mod classic ‘98 Cents Plus Tax’ and Bernard Purdie’s Beck-sampled ‘Soul Drums’. Whilst the cuts by the Untouchable Machine Shop, the Backyard Heavies and Louis Jordan’s version of the ‘Bullit’ theme will have the collectors salivating. As always on BGP, there are a bunch of previously unreleased cuts, this time an intense groove from Frank Armstrong, and some laconic West Coast funk from Utopia.
